Who does not have memories of the unique custom of the royal pie?

Who does not look back on his childhood when he heard the word king pie, to remember gatherings with loved ones, laughter, joy and fun after a meal? And yes χρόνος time changes counting down… 10,9,8… 2,1 HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!! Kisses, hugs, songs, and our favorite royal pie takes its place on the festive table.

We cross it 3 times and start cutting… of Christ, of the house, of the poor (some cut of the Virgin or of St. Basil etc) and then begins the division of the pieces and the joy and at the same time anxiety to whom will the coin fall this year? we all sit speechless in our seats, searching our piece, until we suddenly hear… "I FOUND IT !!!!!!" Or let the wishes of all our family and loved ones begin. The piece of the precious royal pie is usually wrapped in foil and you keep for the morning awakening with the coffee for the beginning of the new year with aromas and smells so that our new year goes well !!!!

Today we will make an easy king pie with walnuts, almonds and pistachio.
But because housewives usually have the 27 cm pan and others have bought a 34 cm round pan, I will give you 2 dosages to make the king pie you need.

For a 34 cm baking tray.

  • 1 flour that swells on its own
  • 250 g fresh butter
  • 1 pot of water orange juice
  • 1 pot water sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 100 g crushed walnut
  • 20 g crushed Aegina pistachio
  • 20 g crushed almond
  • half a cup of soda
  • half a clove of cloves
  • half a cup of cinnamon
  • orange zest
  • 1 pack of baking powder

For a 27 cm baking tray

  • 380 g of self-raising flour
  • 190 g of fresh butter
  • 150 g orange juice
  • 150 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 75 g crushed walnut
  • 20 g crushed Aegina pistachio
  • 20 g crushed almond
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon
  • 1/4 kg cloves
  • orange zest
  • 2 kg baking powder

Implementation

  1. The order in both is the same. Beat the butter (after leaving it at room temperature) with the sugar. Add the orange juice (after we have poured and mixed the soda inside).
  2. Add the eggs, the aromatic nuts and the bacon. Finally, add our flour and mix as slowly as we can and not too much.
  3. Put it in a floured and buttered form, place the coin (coin wrapped in foil) and bake it at 180 degrees for about an hour. Check with a knife in the center when we put the blade to be clean.

We can decorate it with icing, and decorate it with mistletoe or with grandmother's semedaki, place it on the king pie and sprinkle it with icing. By removing it, the shape comes out of the grandmother's semedaki!

We can also make cookies with cinnamon clove flavor and decorate it with star shapes etc.

Others decorate their king pie by pouring nuts so that the year is fruitful.

The youngest in age make sugar paste and decorate their king pie playing with the children and making snowmen, trees, stars etc festive shapes.
